Fort Portal

Fort Portal is situated at the foot of the Ruwenzori Mountains in Western Uganda. Fort Portal is the administrative capital of todays Kabarole District and the traditional capital of Toro Kingdom. From Fort Portal

In Kabarole, the district health system is being improved by the Western Uganda Basic Health Services Program since October 1988. It is a joint venture between the government of Uganda, implemented by the Ministry of Health, and the Federal Republic of Germany, implemented by the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ). It was designed in March 1987 to re-establish a comprehensive Basic District Health Service in Kabarole and neighboring Bundibugyo districts.

I stayed in Fort Portal in 1996 to work on my masters thesis on health management information systems. Please also take a look at the other documents at www.apuuli.de, which came out of the work in Fort Portal:
